How can I access my home directory?

  • Windows XP will map your home directory to the My Documents directory on the desktop
  • You can also find your home directory on the network drive Z: and through the socs-srv server (In the appropriate subdirectory under\\socs-srv.cs.bham.ac.uk\dfs)

Note: Be very careful accessing your home directory under Windows as hidden UNIX/Linux files (files with a leading dot) are displayed by Windows Explorer. Editing, moving or deleting these files may cause login problems under Linux.

If you are at home you should instead connect to \\socs-smb.cs.bham.ac.uk.
