Sharp AR-M450 Printer/Copier

Unix Printing

The Sharp AR-M450 has a number of features which are usually accessible from the front panel when operating in photocopier mode. The use of these features is desirable when operating the copier in printer mode and can be selected using the xlp print command.

We recommend that users use the xlp command to submit jobs to the copier as it is far easier to select the print options using a graphical interface. However, if users wish to use the lp command, the lp options specific to this photocopier are listed below:

Note: general lp options are described in the CUPS User Documentation.

lp option Description
ARStapleLocation=Staple5 Staples print job with one staple
ARStapleLocation=Staple6 Staples print job with two staples (like a book)
Set font size of watermark (default=pt48)
Prints a watermark on each page
Set text angle for watermark

Windows Print Properties

Paper Type

The paper type should be set to A4 Plain.

Using the Stapler

Under the Main Features tab of the printer properties dialog box, set the Binding Edge and Staple options.

Note: printing from Acrobat 7

There has been a problem printing from Acrobat 7 to the Sharp AR-M450 in that it seems to produce postscript that the Sharp AR-M450 can't process and you either get an error page or your job just disapppears. To get round this:
Go to Start->Settings->Printers and right-click on Sharp AR-M450, then select Properties, then go to Printing Preferences->Advanced and uncheck the "PS Pass-through" option. We will hopefully update all machines so that this option is set by default in the near future.
Either use xpdf instead of acroread or print with xlp thus:
	xlp mydocument.pdf
which will bring up a printer dialog to set options for the Sharp AR-M450 (2-side, staple... whatever)
