Torque Resource Manager

What is Torque?

Torque Resource Manager provides control over batch jobs and distributed computing resources. Users can submit jobs to Torque which will handle the details of executing the jobs on individual machines in the cluster.

Scheduling is handled by the Maui Cluster Scheduler.

Usage restrictions

The cluster can only usually be used by Staff and Research students. Students who with to use the cluster for project work must contact their supervisor to request access.

Using the cluster

  1. Log on to hpc1.cs.bham.ac.uk. Note that this has changed from hpc1-01.
  2. Using the qsub tool, submit a script to submit to the cluster, e.g: qsub -n job_name ~/my_script.sh
  3. Check the status of the job using the qstat tool.
