Student Mailing Lists

General Lists

Please choose mailing lists carefully to ensure you reach the intended subset of students. There are a large number of edge cases when classifying students, and it is important not to miss students or spam them with irrelevant email.

A common source of confusion involves emailing final year students. If you want to contact 3rd year BSc students, 3rd and 4th year MSci students etc., use stage-3-students@cs.bham.ac.uk. If you want to contact students who are in their final 12 months of their current programme, use final-year@cs.bham.ac.uk.

Additionally, take care when sending messages that apply to students on a year abroad or in industry. Including these students will usually mean adding year-in-industry-students@cs.bham.ac.uk or study-abroad-students@cs.bham.ac.uk to your email.

Module Lists

As of academic year 2016/17, there will no longer be mailing lists for individual modules. Instead, staff should use the messaging functionality of Canvas to communicate with all students on a module at once.

Programme Lists

Since Canvas does not have a concept of programmes, the School continues to provide the following programme mailing lists.
