Forwarding Central University Email
All Staff and Students should have a central University Email account in addition to their Computer Science account. The two Email accounts are completely separate which means that Email sent to one account can not be read from the other. Throughout the year, the University will Email important announcements to Staff and Students using their central Email account. It is therefore very important that users regularly check the mail sent to their central University account.
All new students will be given details of their central University Email address when they register. Queries regarding central University Email accounts should be directed to the Information Services Desk
To make it easier to read the Email sent to your central University account, users can configure their central Email account to forward all the messages to their Computer Science account.
- Visit the MailHub website http://www.mailhub.bham.ac.uk
- Select Mailname redirection: Change a mailname destination address(es) from the drop down menu.
- Enter your eDirectory username and password when prompted.
Student eDirectory usernames are similar to
abc123(three initials followed by three digits). Staff usernames are composed of your surname (or the first six letters) followed by your initials e.g.otheranUsers who have a NDS account should find that their e-Directory username is the same as their NDS username (excluding the NDS context information). However, the eDirectory password will not be the same as your NDS password. For most users, the password would have been set to your date of birth (8 digits) followed by your staff/student ID number (usually 6 digits) i.e.DDMMYYYY123456. @bham.ac.uk - Enter your full Computer Science Email address e.g.
ug12abc@cs.bham.ac.ukas the destination address. - Click Accept Request to setup the redirection.
- You should receive an Email notification after approximately 2 hours to inform you that the redirection has been successfully configured.
