Where to look for help on L^ATEX

There are many sources of information on L^ATEX and this list is provided as a `where to look' guide;

• School Library

  There are books available for members of the School in the School Library. Most of the books on L^ATEX are for reference only, ask Ceinwen for further details:

  1.

  The Not So Short Introduction to L^ATEX2_e which is a one of the better `teach yourself quickly' breeds. It is also available on-line http://supportweb.cs.bham.ac.uk/documentation/LaTeX/lshort.

  2.

  The L^ATEX Cookbook, as the name suggest it gives lots of examples for document layouts. Bare in mind that this was written for an older version of L^ATEXand that header information is now slightly different.

  3.

  L^ATEX: A Document Preparation System more of a reference manual but remember that some of the ones in the library are for the older version of L^ATEX and there are some important differences. Use this book to decode any errors you get in L^ATEX.

  4.

  The L^ATEX Companion which gives information on packages that can be used with L^ATEX. This book is very widely referenced as the best guide to additional packages. Chapter 8 of this book has been revised and a postscript version of the revisions can be found in/bham/pd/packages/teTeX-1.0/share/texmf/doc/latex/ch8.ps.

  There are other books in the library which you can use for help on TEX, I won't list them here.

• On-line

  There is plenty of local on-line help, a lot of the files come in more than one format so you can choose how to view them.

  1.

  Documentation supplied with teTEX can be found in
  /bham/pd/packages/teTeX-1.0/share/texmf/doc where you will find the file helpindex.html which lists what is available. You can also try running `texdoc index' or using xdvi to view latex2e.dvi for help on L^ATEX. The html version of latex2e is also available on http://supportweb.cs.bham.ac.uk/documentation/LaTeX/latex2e.

  2.

  The Not so Short Introduction to L^ATEX2_e is available at

  3.

  There is also another L^ATEX2_e user guide called L^ATEX for authors available at
  http://supportweb.cs.bham.ac.uk/documentation/LaTeX/usrguide.

  There are a some templates available, written by Aaron Sloman. One is specifically directed at VED users, the other has been modified for a more general audience. Also try the L^ATEX Cookbook.

  5.

  Emacs info pages provide useful information on the teTeX tools.
